High-Power Industrial and Laboratory Power Supplies
High-power industrial AC/DC power supplies and programmable laboratory power supplies are designed for applications requiring thousands of watts, high precision, and advanced control. Available in 19-inch rack, modular, or wheeled cabinet configurations, they combine efficiency, robustness, and programmability, making them ideal for R&D, verification, and production.
Key Electrical Performance
- High power ratings: from 1–3 kW up to tens of kW per unit, with master-slave parallel operation available to increase output power and current.
- Three-phase input of 3 × 400/480 VAC (other input voltages available on request), with active PFC and typical efficiency above 90–95%.
- Operating modes: CV (constant voltage), CC (constant current), and CP (constant power), with an over-power protection limit (OPP).
- Fast dynamic response, with programmable slew rate and reduced ripple and noise for sensitive testing applications.
- Remote sense to compensate for cable voltage drops, plus remote on/off and inhibit functions.
- Options for forced-air cooling or liquid cooling, depending on the power rating.
Control and Programming
- Interfaces: Ethernet/LAN, USB, RS-232/RS-485 (Modbus RTU), GPIB, and, depending on the model, CAN/CANopen.
- SCPI commands for integration into test benches and automation systems using LabVIEW/IVI or Python.
- LIST mode and sequencing for timed voltage and current profiles, triggers, and synchronization between equipment.
- 0–5 V / 0–10 V analog inputs and outputs for external control and monitoring.
- Web server and data logging on Ethernet-equipped models.
Protection and Safety
- OVP (overvoltage protection), OCP (overcurrent protection), OPP (overpower protection), OTP (overtemperature protection), and SCP (short-circuit protection).
- Interlock/E-stop functions and local/remote alarms.
- Compliance with applicable safety and EMC standards, such as EN 61010-1/EN 62368-1 and EMC Class A requirements for industrial environments.
Laboratory Functions
- High-resolution digital voltmeter and ammeter, with power and energy measurements.
- Configuration memories and startup presets.
- Burn-in mode and extended-duration cycle testing.
Applications
- R&D and verification of power electronics.
- Battery charging and testing (Li-ion, lead-acid, LiFePO4) and energy storage systems.
- Testing of DC motors, motor drives, and inverters.
- Test benches for automotive, railway, aerospace, and industrial applications.
- High-power lighting and laboratory equipment.
Options and Form Factors
- 19-inch rack-mount configurations in 2U/3U heights, as well as integrated cabinets with wheels and handles.
- Front or rear connections featuring high-current terminals or copper busbars.
- Parallel and series operation to increase output current or voltage, with active current sharing where supported.
- Accessories: shunts, contactors, OR-ing diodes, and wiring kits.
Selection Guidelines
- Determine the required voltage, current, and power ranges, including the load’s startup current peaks.
- Select the appropriate CV/CC/CP operating modes and transition speed for the test requirements.
- Identify the required interfaces and communication protocols (SCPI, Modbus, CAN, GPIB).
- Verify cooling requirements, thermal derating, and available installation space (rack/cabinet).
