AC/DC Power Supplies for LED Lighting
LED power supplies are designed to power LED luminaires and strips with maximum efficiency, stability, and service life. There are two main types: constant voltage (CV) for LED strips and modules operating at 12/24 V, and constant current (CC) for luminaires and COB/arrays requiring a fixed current (e.g., 350/500/700/1050 mA).
Key Advantages and Features
- CV and CC options to suit the type of LED load.
- High efficiency and active PFC in medium- and high-power models.
- Flicker-free models for visual comfort and camera applications.
- Surge protection (e.g., 2/4/6 kV, depending on the model) and improved EMC performance.
- Protection features against overload, overvoltage, overheating, and short circuits.
Control and Dimming
- Dimming interfaces such as 0–10 V, DALI/DALI-2, PWM, Push-Dim, and DMX/RDM for stage lighting applications.
- Versions with current adjustment via DIP switch or potentiometer (CC).
- Compatibility with sensors and smart control via gateways (depending on the model).
Installation Environments
- IP20 indoor models for recessed luminaires, panels, and linear lighting.
- IP65/IP67 outdoor models with encapsulated housings for architectural lighting, facade lighting, gardens, and street lighting.
- Insulation classes: Class II and SELV outputs for low-voltage safety.
- Extended operating temperature range and defined derating based on ta/tc to ensure LED service life.
Typical Applications
- 12/24 V LED strips, flexible neon, and linear profiles (CV).
- Downlights, panels, and floodlights (CC).
- Commercial lighting and retail lighting.
- Industrial lighting, high-bay lighting, and street/outdoor lighting.
- Architectural and decorative lighting, including RGB/RGBW systems with DMX or PWM control.
Compliance and Safety
LED power supplies comply with electrical safety and EMC regulations (e.g., CE, ENEC, UL, and RoHS). Some models achieve EMC Class B and low THD levels. Selecting the appropriate CV or CC type, together with temperature monitoring (tc) and correct power sizing, ensures a reliable, long-lasting LED system.
Selection Recommendations
- Determine whether the LED load requires constant voltage or constant current.
- Allow sufficient power margin and check the operating temperature range and derating.
- Choose the appropriate IP rating (IP20 for indoor use, IP65/67 for outdoor use).
- Specify the required dimming interface (0–10 V, DALI, PWM, DMX, etc.).
